APAH Hosts Grand Opening For Arlington Mill Residences On March 24

122 units of affordable housing now open in Arlington, VA

Arlington, VA — The Arlington Partnership for Affordable Housing (APAH) announces the grand opening of Arlington Mill Residences on Monday, March 24, 2014. This building is a partnership between Arlington County and APAH to provide much-needed affordable housing using the innovative concept of public land for housing. APAH built Arlington Mill atop the County-built parking garage. The discounted long-term lease for this public land dramatically reduced development costs and enabled APAH to serve many more low income families. The property is adjacent to the newly-opened Arlington Mill Community Center and overlooks the Four Mile Run Park. It provides 122 new apartment homes targeted to individuals and families earning between 30%-60% of the area median income. Thirteen units at very low rents provide permanent supportive homes for formerly homeless individuals and vulnerable families. Over 3,000 people applied for apartments when APAH opened the waiting list, illustrating the tremendous demand for affordable housing in this community. Speaking at this event will be Arlington County Board Chair Jay Fisette, APAH Board Chair Robert Rozen, Virginia Housing Development Authority Executive Director Susan Dewey, Bank of America Senior Vice President Brian Tracey, and APAH President/CEO Nina Janopaul.
