Commitment to APAH Residents
Since 2012, APAH residents have been members of the APAH board, bringing their lived experience to the table to shape and enrich APAH’s priorities and decision-making. To further amplify resident voice, APAH’s Resident Advisory Council is launching this spring with 25 residents volunteering their time to help shape programming and priorities for APAH communities.
To keep pace with its growing property portfolio over the last several years, APAH invested in expanding its resident services, increasing staff from 4 to 14, with APAH staff offices at most of our properties. All resident services staff are available Monday through Friday during business hours.
APAH has steadily repeated the mantra since the start of COVID: “You can’t stay safe at home if you don’t have a home.” APAH extended its eviction moratorium to December 31, 2021 and is actively working with local government on eviction prevention measures. With assistance from the APAH resident service team and property management company S.L. Nusbaum (SLN), APAH residents received over $5 million in rent relief during the COVID pandemic. APAH is still aggressively applying for rent relief for its residents in an effort to keep people housed.
During the pandemic, both property management and resident service staff were front-line and available while most people remained home. Resident newsletters were created to connect people to one another and to highlight different activities and benefits, such as COVID vaccine pop-up clinics and food bank deliveries to APAH properties.
Other services and activities, ranging from after-school activities like Girls on the Run to weekly phone calls to isolated seniors, are designed with each property’s population and unique needs in mind. Resident services staff specialize in housing and family stability, health and wellness, education, and designing community solutions.
Based on resident feedback, programs are being expanded as COVID numbers drop. APAH’s 2020-2021 Resident Services Impact Statement highlights recent and upcoming activities and partnerships including afterschool activities, senior enrichment, and expanded food delivery services.
