Arlington,
VA (May 5, 2003) - William Nary and Dolores Leckey, two
founding members of the Arlington Partnership for Affordable
Housing (APAH), have been recognized for their distinguished
service to Arlington County.
The Arlington
Commission on the Status of Women presented Leckey with a
2003 "Person of Vision" award at the annual Women's
History Month dinner, held on March 19th at Clarendon Ballroom.
Leckey is one of four recipients honored this year. The theme
of the 2003 awards, "Women Pioneering the Future,"
accurately describes Leckey's work in Arlington County. In
addition to founding APAH, Leckey has been involved in the
affordable housing industry through the Arlington Street People's
Assistance Network (A-SPAN). She also held a position with
the Conference of United States Catholic Bishops, which, at
the time, was unprecedented for a woman.
William
(Bill) Nary was selected as one of two honorees in the Lifetime
Achievement Category of the Community Hero Awards, which will
be presented as a part of Neighborhood Day on Saturday, May
10th at 11:30 am in Ballston Commons Mall. Nary was selected
for the award based on his efforts to improve the lives of
Arlingtonians, from pedestrian safety to affordable housing.
In addition to founding APAH, Nary has worked with the Literacy
Council of Northern Virginia.
The Arlington
Partnership for Affordable Housing is a private, nonprofit
organization founded in 1989, with the mission to provide
safe, affordable housing to residents throughout the County.
APAH purchases and renovates apartment buildings and rents
them to low- to mid-income individuals and families. For more
